DEFINING CRITERIA
If you answer yes to the following questions, you're probably dealing with a Section 4(f) cultural resource:

q   Is the resource of national, state or local significance?
      (Is it on or eligible for the NRHP?)
q   Is the resource's protection considered appropriate by
      the FHWA?

WITHIN A CULTURAL DISTRICT
The following questions must be addressed for property impacted within a historical or archeological district. If the answer to either of them is yes, Section 4(f) probably applies:

q   Is the property itself significant?
q   Is the property significant in the overall historical
      context of the district?

IF A CULTURAL RESOURCE IS SIGNIFICANT
q   Have you prepared the appropriate additional       documentation and consulted with the DOT, the official       with jurisdiction and other interested parties?
