OVERVIEW
    •   Knapps Narrows Bridge - located in Tilghman Island           Historic District
    •   Bridge and historic district eligible for listing on NRHP

PURPOSE & NEED
         Address vehicular & pedestrian safety issues, as well          as clearance problems for commercial and recreational          boating traffic

CHALLENGE
    •   Develop an acceptable build alternative, despite          significant impacts
    •   Rehabilitation and no-build options fail to meet purpose          & need

SOLUTION
    •   Replacement alternative selected through coordination           process
    •   Selected alternative resulted in impacts, but met           purpose & need
    •    MOA drafted as part of Section 106 process, resulting           in the following mitigation

               »    documentation, recordation of bridge,
                     tenders and users
               »    Historic bridge placed on display in front of                      Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum
