OVERVIEW
    •   Patuxent Naval Air Station (NAS) - across MD 235 from          Lexington Park
    •   Two NAS buildings eligible for NRHP - museum and          training school

PURPOSE & NEED
         Improve traffic congestion and safety conditions on MD          235 where it runs along NAS and Lexington Park

CHALLENGE
    •   Choosing impacts to either the NAS historic buildings or          the Lexington Park community
    •   No-build option failed to meet purpose and need - not          feasible and prudent
    •   Two minimization alternatives also failed to meet P&N -          not feasible and prudent

SOLUTION
         Third minimization alternative developed to balance          impacts between business community and historic
         buildings/ included creative mitigation measures:

                      Lexington Park
                »    exhibit panel and salvaged portions of
                      dance floor
