Section 4(f) interactive training

Welcome to Maryland State Highway Administration's Section 4(f) interactive document. This page will introduce you to the content of the publication, which focuses primarily on the Section 4(f) regulations of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Act of 1966. A small portion of the document offers an overview of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

If you are viewing the material from a CD-ROM, be aware that it is also available on line at www.section4f.com.

To Use
To use the document, all you need is a web browser on a standard PC or Macintosh computer. For best results, we recommend that your computer be equipped with 64 MB of RAM or higher. If your browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer, we recommend that you use version 5 or higher; if Netscape Navigator, version 6 or higher.

Use the menu in the right column of each page to access the main sections of the document.

Section 4(f)
This area constitutes the bulk of the document. The Section 4(f) content has been divided into nine categories, all of which are accessible from the green navigation bar at the top of each page.

NEPA
The purpose of the NEPA section is to complement Section 4(f). It is not a comprehensive guide but, rather, a brief summary of the more germane aspects of the NEPA process.

Contents
This page is similar to a Table of Contents in a book. Every page in the document is listed and can be accessed by clicking the link.

Related Information
This section includes links to a number of .pdf files (which will open if Adobe Acrobat is installed on your computer) containing federal statutes, regulations and policy papers related to Section 4(f) and NEPA.
